As a Hungary renowned pianist,composer and performer of the Romantic period,Liszt has created a large number of piano compositions during his lifetime.While,his piano adaptation is one of the great achievements in his music career,which occupies an important position in his music creation and plays a vital role in the development of piano music art.Liszt has over 700 piano adaptations.Most of these works were adapted form opera,songs,symphony and so on,and were even more influential and popular than the original works of Liszt at the time.The adaptation technique is so breathtaking that it has become the research focus of experts and scholars at home and abroad and he enjoys the reputation of “the master of adaptation” by later generations.Among his piano adaptations,Liszt incorporated a plenty of highly difficult piano-playing skills,thus creating a new and unique piano vocabulary,expanding the romantic music spirit and enriching the piano-playing skills.Besides,he further shortened the distance with the original opera,and reflected it with a brand-new performing carrier.This paper takes Liszt’s piano adaptation Jester as the research object,expounding the background of Liszt’s piano adaptation,and leading to a deeper understanding of the creating technique and concept based on the analysis of the adaptation characteristic,music creating feature and performing skill.This paper also makes a summary and conclusion of the key and difficult points in the performance of Jester on the basis of individual performing experience,and explores how to manifest the dramaticism of opera via the piano.Finally,it summarizes the general music characteristic of Liszt’s adaptation,systematically appreciates the artistic charm of Liszt’s piano adaptation,and has a better understanding of the unique language of this romantic music master,aiming to help players display the music spirit of Liszt and the dramaticism of Jester in a perfect way.
