| Nowadays, more and more countries are paying close attention to how to deal with climate change and the international communities are attaching much importance to how to strengthen international cooperation on climate change. While interpreting and introducing related literature, the domestic translators have also done in-depth research into meteorological EST(English for Science and Technology).Meanwhile,as a new genre of text, meteorological EST is increasingly capturing the attention of translation researchers.Nowadays, there are a great number of researches on the translation of attributive clauses in EST.However,in meteorological EST,a little research is done on the translation of attributive clauses. In this translation task,Chapter Three Air Temperature is selected as a source text from Essentials of Meteorology. With the translation of attributive clauses as a main line and Functional Equivalence Theory as the theoretical basis, this thesis mainly focuses on the translation strategies of attributive clauses in English scientific texts and is divided into six chapters as follows:the first chapter demonstrates the background and structure of the report.Chapter Two describes the translation task. The procedures of the translation practice are discussed in the third chapter. The fourth chapter reviews Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and gives a brief introduction to attributive clauses. The fifth chapter, the main body of the report, poses some problems in the translation practice and proper translation strategies to solve these problems. The last chapter makes a summary of the whole research.Through the study on translation of meteorological EST in this paper, the author finds that with the flexible translation of the attributive clauses in meteorological EST via division, combination and conversion, the translation can be more smooth and fluent, and at the same time it is more in line with the habitual expression in Chinese without taking a toll on the rigor and logic of meteorological translation. In addition, this study also helps readers to understand some meteorological concepts by well handling the translation of attributive clauses, thus promoting the dissemination of relevant knowledge of meteorological EST. |
