In view of the increasing significance of multimodal literacy in the era of new media,“viewing” is added to language skills in National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 Edition).Generally speaking,“viewing” refers to the ability to understand meanings with graphics, tables, animations, symbols and videos in multimodal discourse. In China, multimodal teaching is just in its early stage and most studies at home just introduce some foreign research achievements. The research mainly focuses on the following two questions:1.What’re the effects of multimodal teaching on students’ English reading?2.What is the change of students’ attitudes towards English reading after the application of multimodal teaching? This thesis mainly studies the students’ attitude towards English reading after the application of multimodal teaching.Tests, questionnaires, interview and classroom observations are used as research instruments in this study. The two selected classes are required to take part in the test to testify the effects of multimodal reading teaching on students’ reading ability. At last, all of the data were collected and analyzed by the software SPSS 20.0.The results show that through concrete classroom practice, multimodal teaching methods are more flexible, teaching contents are more intuitive, teaching strategies are more efficient, students’ participation is higher, cultural awareness is more penetrated, and which accords with the requirements for improving reading skills in new curriculum standard(2017 Edition)and enhance the core competency of students. However, there are also some shortcomings in this thesis. The time of this experiment is very short and the number of subjects is limited.
