With the further development of globalization, individuals often fail to accurately identify faces from individuals in other cultures.Study of cross-cultural face recognition visual processing characteristics can provide an effective reference for cross-cultural face recognition, and promote communication among different cultural groups. This study will use eye-movement technology to explore the characteristics of the lateralization of Han,Tibetan and Hui ethnic individuals when they recognize their own ethnic and other ethnic faces,in order to provide a basis for cross-cultural face recognition. The study 1 mainly includes Experiment 1 and Experiment 2.The faces were divided into two areas of interest on the left and right sides of the face.It is explore whether there is the similar left Lateralization when Han and Tibetan, and Hui individuals recognize their own and other ethnic faces. The study 2 mainly includes Experiment 3 and Experiment 4.The faces were divided into six regions of interest(such as,left eye, right eye, left side of nose, right side of nose, left side of mouth, and right side of mouth). In order to explore whether the left lateralization is suitbale for all facial features(eyes, nose, and mouth)when Han and Tibetan, and Hui individuals recognize their own and other ethnic faces. The results of Study 1 shows that when the individuals of the three ethnic groups recognize their own nationality and other nationalities, the number of fixations and the duration on the left side of the face are significantly more than the number of fixations and the duration on the right side of the face, and there is no difference in the ethnicity of subjects and faces. The results of study 2 reveals that when the Han,Tibetan, and Hui individuals recognize the Tibetan and Hui faces, the number of fixations and the duration on the left side of mouth are significantly greater than that on the right side of mouth, and there was no significant difference of the number of fixations and the duration on the eyes and nose of the left and right sides. When the Han,Tibetan, and Hui individuals recognize the faces of Han,the number of fixations and the duration on the left nose were significantly greater than that on the right nose, the number of fixations and the duration on the left mouth were significantly greater than that on the right mouth. There is no difference in the number of fixations and duration between the left and right eyes. The results ofthe study indicate that individuals of the Han,Tibetan, and Hui groups have a consistent leftward lateralization when recognizing the faces of their own and other ethnicities, but there are differences of the left lateralization on face features when Han,Tibetan, and Hui individuals recognize faces of the Han ethnicity and other ethnicities. That is,when three ethnic individuals recognize Han faces, the left lateralization of face recognition mainly appears on the nose and eyes, while the the lateralization of recognition for Tibetan and Hui faces mainly appears on the mouth. It is proved that the differences in face centers between different ethnic groups may be the main reasons for the cross-national face recognition differences, and provide new ideas for the study of cross-cultural face recognition characteristics. And it is beneficial for the majority of researchers to have a deeper understanding of the characteristics of cross-cultural face visual processing and provide an effective basis for individual face-to-face communication between different ethnic groups.
