A Report On Interpreting For The On-Site Investigation By BSE Into Xiwang Special Steel Company

This report is based on the author’s experience of interpreting for the on-site investigation conducted by a German company,Badische Stahl-Engineering GmbH(hereinafter referred to as BSE)into Shandong Xiwang Special Steel Company(hereinafter referred to as Xiwang)from October 19th to 26th of 2017.The author’s main work is to provide interpreting service for BSE engineers in their daily communication with staff and workers from Xiwang rolling mills.The report,adopting the concepts of interpreting competence and interpreter competence from the assessment models as its framework,conducts case analysis of the author’s interpreting experience to show the intelligence factors and non-intelligence factors involved in interpreting activities and expresses the author’s reflections on the cultivation of interpreter competence.The author hopes that this report can help more interpreters become aware that interpreter competence is of vital importance for interpreters to fulfill interpreting tasks smoothly and successfully.The cultivation of interpreter competence is actually a long process through which interpreters get trained and perfected.Any practitioners or MTI students who want to become qualified interpreters should not only improve bilingual competence,acquire interpreting skills and enrich their encyclopedic knowledge,but also intensify their psychological qualities,strengthen their physical qualities and build up their professional standards.
