| This report analyzes the author’s interpreting activities, that is,being the escort interpreter of Mr.Stefan Jost, who is Director of FIFA World Football Museum at the World Football Culture Summit,to explore how to achieve the equivalence of the original meaning or effect pursued by the interpreter in interpreting practice. In this report, the author analyzes the interpreter’s interpreting strategies and corresponding solutions in different cases. The author chooses the Interpretive Theory to analyze his interpreting practice. The Interpretive Theory holds that ranslation means translator’s interpretation. This theory came directly from the interpreting practice, and its views have unique implications for translation studies.Interpreting is a special communicative activity.Interpreters encounter some unexpected problems and unexpected situations in the course of interpreting. Therefore, the author attempts to categorize and analyze the problems encountered in this interpreting practice. He also discusses how to solve these problems and how to improve the quality and efficiency of interpreting.Specifically, the author divides the problems encountered in his Chinese-English interpreting into three categories:Chinese special terms, rhetorical expressions and polite greetings, and classifies the problems encountered in his English-Chinese interpreting into culture-loaded expressions, impolite expressions and expressions beyond instant comprehension.Through the analysis of specific cases, the author finds that in the process of escort interpretation,as the information communicator, the interpreter’s real object is to convey the information the speaker wants to express. In the process of interpretation, the interpreter should adopt appropriate strategies to deverbalize the source language,so as to reveal the information of the source language that the speaker really wants to express.Only in this way can the purpose of communication be better achieved. |
