| This report is about the Chinese translation practice which is based on several parts of The Lake, written by a famous Japanese writer Banana Yoshimoto in Japanese and translated into English by Michael Emmerich. The novel is one of Banana’s important works. The author of this report found that the domestic research on Banana Yoshimoto mainly focuses on her works themselves. As to the translation of the works, people seem to pay little attention. Therefore, the author of this report translated parts of the English version of The Lake so that readers can enjoy the charm of Banana’s novels further. After studying various translation strategies,as well as considering this translation practice, the author of this report adopted the domestication and foreignization strategies and comprehensively used various translation methods, including interpretation, addition, omission, reorganization and negation so as to achieve the best translation effect.Generally speaking,in order to promote cultural exchange as well as make target readers understand this novel better, foreignization will be used more for those words or sentences which have special meanings or different cultural connotations, while for those words or sentences that have less special meanings, domestication will be adopted often. The reporter hopes that this translation project and this report can guide her translation activities in the future better by consolidating translation theories and methods and further provide some references for the application of domestication or foreignization in translation practice. |
