An Analysis On The Skills Of Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the fast economic development and people’s increasing level of life after the implementation of the reform and opening up policy,China is exchanging more and more with western countries.And sports talk show is also inviting more and more foreign guests.In the talk show,hosts would discuss sports and other topics with the guests,presenting unique life stories to the audience.This paper,on the basis of two Tencent sports talk show videos,studies the consecutive interpreting skills in the sports talk show from the perspective of Skopos theory.It uses Skopos theory’s skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule to analyze the choice of strategy in the consecutive interpreting of the sports talk show and discuss application of interpreting skills such as omission,addition and reconstruction.This paper points out that omission can enable the speakers and audience to better understand each other and make the program more successful when there is repetitive or meaningless information in the process of interpreting;adding some not clearly expressed but implied information can add accuracy,readability,and acceptability to the interpreting output;and instead of rigidly following the form of the speakers’words,reconstructing the structure of the speakers’ information can better communicate the source information to the audience;and when dealing with culture-specific items,interpreters should flexibly use domestication or foreignization according to the conditions concerned.This paper will facilitate interpreters in their work in the sports talk show.
