| In twenty-first Century, with the help of advanced technology and equipment,we can access the Internet resources immediately, andcomplete theknowledge learning anytime and anywhere.Flipped classroom is bred in such a big data Era,characterized by the typicalactivities of classroom lectures followed by homework in traditional teaching proceduresare reversed in order, and often supplemented or integrated with instructional videos.Students’ mastery of certain autonomous learning ability is the premise of the smooth development of the flipped classroom, and the flipped classroom gives students the right to dominate the time, place and ways of learning, and also improves the students’ autonomous learning ability.Autonomous learning ability is of great significance to social development, education change and individual growth.Southern Xinjiang is located in the western border of the motherland,so its teaching philosophy and facilities are lagging behind the eastern coastal areas. The traditional English teaching mode is still used in college English classes in southern universities, and their autonomous learning ability can not be improved. Therefore,it is of practical significance to introduce the new flipped classroom teaching model into the College English classroom in southern Xinjiang.Based on the theory of Cognition,Constructivism,Humanism and Bloom’s Taxonomy, the study used empirical research to explore whether the flipped classroom model can promote the autonomous learning ability of college students in southern Xinjiang universities. The research questions are as follows,1.Is flipped classroom more conducive to improving college students’ English academic performance than traditional classroom?2.Is the flipped classroom more conducive to improving the autonomous learning ability of college students than the traditional classroom?3.From the eight dimensions of autonomous learning, how does the flippedclassroom affect the autonomous learning ability of college students? The study combines quantitative research with qualitative research. In the two classes of College English in the only comprehensive undergraduate university in southern Xinjiang, the flipped classroom teaching and traditional English teaching were implemented respectively. The experimental cycle began in September 2016 and ended in January 2017,a total of 16 weeks. Before and after the experiment, two classes of English scores and English autonomous learning ability were tested.Pre-test results showed that there is no significant difference between the two classes in English proficiency and autonomous learning ability, and the posttest results showed that the experimental class has been significantly improved in two aspects. After the flipped classroom teaching experiment. The researchers randomly selected 10 students from the experimental class and conducted semi-structured interviews to further understand the students’ attitudes towards the flipped classroom model and the influence of the flipped classroom on their autonomous learning ability. The collected test data were analyzed by SPSS19.0.The major findings can be summarized as follows:1.The flipped classroom can improve college students’ ’ English academic achievement.2.The flipped classroom can improve the autonomous learning ability of college students.3.From eight aspects of autonomous learning, the flipped classroom has significantly improved the consciousness of autonomous learning, classroom parcipation, determining the objectives, defining the contents and progressions, monitoring the procedures, evaluating the results, but selecting methods and strategies, however, there is no significant improvement in teachers’ role and autonomous choice of learning strategies. The study found that overturning classroom teaching can promote the cultivation of autonomous learning ability of college students in southern Xinjiang through empirical research. This result enriches the current research on the effective ways to cultivate autonomous learning ability, and at the same time provides the reform of English curriculum in Nanjiang University Certain reference. |
