| Drug Addicts are a special group in our society and an inalienable part of society as a whole.Their mental health has a significant impact on their better return to society.However,self-stigma is a variable that has an important influence on attitudes and behavior of drug addicts.Self-stigmatization of drug addicts affects the improvement of life enthusiasm and coping styles of drug addicts,and affects the mental health of drug addicts.From the perspective of self-stigma,previous studies on mental health mainly focused on criminals,special types of children(left-behind children,children and orphans,etc.),people with mental illness and AIDS patients,etc.However,the discussion on this huge group of drug addicts was very less.Therefore,to explore the relationship between self-criticism,coping style and mental health of drug addicts,to provide theoretical guidance for drug addicts in China to better conduct mental health interventions for drug addicts,and to had a practical significance for the return of drug addicts to society in China.In this context,based on the theory of social exchange theory,this study was conducted by means of a questionnaire survey.The samples were collected from 652 drug addicts in Changsha,Chenzhou and other places and their drug addicts.Using SPSS 19.0 software,Independent sample t-test,analysis of variance,correlation analysis,regression analysis and meta-analysis were used to examine the relationship between self-stigma and coping style and mental health of drug addicts.The results showed that:(1)There was a significant difference in self-stigma among drug addicts with regard to education level,physical health status,drug addiction period,and frequency of drug abuse before entry;(2)There was a significant difference in the gender,marital status,and drug abuse period among the drug addicts’ active coping styles.The negative coping styles had significant differences in the drug abuse years and the frequency of drug use before entering the country;(3)There was a significant difference in the frequency of drug abuse among the drug addicts in terms of marital status,education level,physical health,and entrance;(4)Self stigma had a significant positive effect on the passive coping style of drug addicts,but its impact on positive coping styles is not significant;(5)Self stigma had a significant negative impact on mental health of drug addicts;(6)Positive coping styles have a significant positive effect on the mental health of drug addicts,and negative coping styles have a significant negative effect on their mental health;(7)Negative coping styles have partial mediating effects between self stigma and mental health of drug addicts,but the mediating role of positive coping styles is not obvious.The conclusion showed that:Self-stigma affects,in part,the mental health of drug addicts through negative coping styles.Finally,the limitations of our study and future directions were discussed. |
