The History of Barag Mongols gives a specific introduction to Barag Mongols.It also describes the source,prosperity,and social,cultural and economic development on the whole.For now,this book is a masterpiece of giving introduction to history and status quo of Barag Mongols systematically and specifically.What’s more,it has played a bigger role in advertising Barag Mongols and advancing cultural development of Hulunbuir.The source text of the translation practice comes from Chapter 13 of The History of Barag Mongols.This report is based on the translation theory of text typology raised by English translation theorist Peter Newmark.Through analysis,the source text mainly can be classified into informative text along with expressive text.Due to its ethnic and historical scope,the translator selected semantic and communicative translation method to guide this translation practice so as to spread unique ethnic culture.Both methods applied in translation practice not only retain the characteristics of the source text,but make more readers understandable for cultural communication and advertisement.To clearly express the information of source text and to make target reader understand the meaning of source text,the translator used communicative translation as the major method,while semantic translation method is applied to tackle some cultural expressions.When communicative translation can not solve the cultural difference,semantic translation that plays an auxiliary role can be taken to maintain the cultural characteristics of the source text.In the translation project,firstly,the translator analyzed the type of source text;then,according to the function of source text,target readers of the translation should be made clear;later,the translator needed to select some appropriate translation skills.During the translation process,some problems caused big influence such as culturally-loaded words,long and short sentences,expressions of terms,contextual coherence.In Chapter Four,the translator applied the semantic translation and the communicative translation with skills like literal and free translation,omission,amplification and etc.After innumerable correction and deliberation,the quality of this translation finally met the requirement of the entrusting party.This report consists of 5 parts.Firstly,it gives an introduction to the background and structure.Secondly,it takes analysis of source text,introduction to the author and the requirements of the entrusting party.Thirdly,it focuses on the translation process which includes before translation,while translation and after translation.Besides,it integrates translation theory,translation methods with specific cases selected from the translation process through analysis and comparison.Last but not least,it concludes the whole translation process and gives reflection on unsolved problems from translation.
