Many studies have shown that major historical events and some long-term institutional factors have a significant impact on the economic development of later generations. Many multi-ethnic empirees in history that have had long-term domination and great influence on the region have had a profound influence on the areas they once ruled.Even if these large empires died, their institutional legacy also affect these countries that had been ruled so far. These institutional inheritances will affect the economic development of these countries and even determine their long-term economic development. This article will use modern economic research methods to study this phenomenon:Even if some ancient empire has died for many years, its rule has still had a far-reaching impact on the economic development of the region that had once been conquered. This article will examine the impact of the long-term rule of the Ottoman Empire on the modern economic development of countries in Eastern Europe.By comparing the differences between the Ottoman empire and contemporary European empires, the qualitative analysis of its impact on the economic development of Eastern European countries is based on this.On the basis of this, this paper using geographical RD to return the data.Using the two geographical boundary lines of the Ottoman Empire in 1832 and 1878 in Eastern Europe as a breakpoint indicator to perform the regression to analyze the impact of their rule on the economies of modern Eastern Europe. On the basis of controlling various historical factors, this paper gradually removes the influence of other factors related to the boundary line(such as modern national demarcation lines, natural topographic demarcation lines, etc.),and finally determines that the impact of the boundary line on the economies of modern countries can only be the Ottoman Empire's rule. The purpose and significance of this paper is to provide empirical evidence for this argument through the design and results of the RD regression. The content of this paper is mainly two parts. The first part studies how the Ottoman Empire's rule has an impact on the economies of Eastern Europe countries.Based on the background of the previous article, combined with the Ottoman Empire's rule in the Balkans, qualitatively studies its influence of the modern economy of the Balkan countries. The second part of the study is based on the first part of the study, through the RD regression,to verify whether the Ottoman Empire's negative impact on the national economy has empirical evidence.First, using the 2015 economic data of the regions of Eastern Europe on both sides of the Ottoman Empire, boundary to conduct RD regressions to study whether the Ottoman Empire's rule will have a negative impact on the modern economy in these regions.Through the result, there are two main problems that we want to solve.First, whether the Ottoman Empire's rule has hindered the economic development of the Eastern European countries, and how to distinguish the mechanism from many factors of economic impact.Second, when did the effect of the Ottoman Empire's borders begin?Since the Ottoman Empire ruled for nearly 500 years in Eastern Europe,if the first part of the content indicates that the Ottoman Empire's domination region does have a negative effect, does this effect begin when the Ottoman Empire conquered Eastern Europe,or did it begin to become noticeable when the Ottoman Empire gradually weakened and apparently lags behind the West? After the above studies, this article has reached the following conclusions:First, the Ottoman Empire's rule does have a significant impediment to the modern economic development of Eastern European countries.Second, the reforms of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century did not achieve the desired results, and the civil strife caused by the reforms further weakened its national strength.Third, the impedimental effects of the Ottoman Empire will not be significant before the 18th century.
