A Project Report On Interpretation Of Road Shows Of German Startups In Techcode Nanjing

With rapid development of globalization,international communication has become more frequent and diverse.Besides prepared speech,impromptu speech is also very common in communication.Unpredictable and unprepared,impromptu speech may cause barriers for interpreters in terms of information output,speaking speed,etc.Many studies on simultaneous interpreting of impromptu speech can be found.However,studies on consecutive interpreting of impromptu speech are very few.Therefore,strategies on consecutive interpreting of impromptu speech are discussed in the paper.In September 2017,the reporter worked as the consecutive interpreter for the project—Techcode Nanjing:Road Shows of German Startups.Based on study on sentence structure and contents of the recording,the reporter analyzed three difficulties of interpreting impromptu speech in consecutive interpreting,namely,loose expressions,redundancy and incompletion.She put forward corresponding strategies from three perspectives:condensation and reformulation,omission and summarization,linking and supplementation.
