A Report On The Translation Of Chapter 5 Of Australian Intellectual Property Law

This is a translation report of the Chapter 5 from the book Australian Intellectual Property Law.With the advent of the knowledge economy in the information age,controversies and disputes concerning intellectual property are increasingly involved both at home and abroad.Thus,the study of intellectual property is of great significance.The protection of intellectual property is conducive to mobilizing the enthusiasm of people’s creativity and promoting the optimal allocation of social resources.Therefore,I choose the Australian Intellectual Property Law as the translation material.The report analyzes the linguistic features in the source texts and illustrates the translation techniques of passive sentences in legal English based on the principles of“faithfulness,expressiveness,appropriateness”.I firstly analyze the passive sentences of Chapter 5 from the book Australian Intellectual Property Law,and then introduce the translation principles of“faithfulness,expressiveness,appropriateness”,among which “faithfulness” refers to the preservation of the original meaning;“expressiveness” indicates the smoothness and coherence of translation;“appropriateness” means the consistency with the original style.Finally I sum up the following three translation techniques: English passive sentences translated into Chinese passive sentences;English passive sentences into Chinese active sentences;English passive sentences into Chinese non-subject sentences.
