A Study On The Quotation Of Chinese Classics In The True Meaning Of The God

The True Meaning of God is a missionary work written by Matteo Ricci,aimed at providing scholar-bureaucrats the preparation of religious faith.This book is composed of dialogues,including 114 questions and answers.Based on the equal academic exchange and the philosophical argument,The True Meaning of God quoted a large number of Chinese classics,especially Confucian classics to help demonstrate the universality and rationality of the Catholic doctrine,through which Matteo Ricci combined the Catholic doctrine with the traditional Chinese Confucianism creatively.The True Meaning of God is,to some extent,not only the most significant embodiment and the most important historical materials of this new missionary method,but also an important research material for intercultural communication between China and the West.The object of this study is the citation phenomenon of Chinese classics in The True Meaning of God.This article is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction part.In this part,the topic selection basis,research objects,source of corpus,research history and current situation,research methods and innovative points of this paper have all been expounded.In the second chapter,we enumerate the books quoted in The True Meaning of God,and make a statistical arrangement and classification on the basis of the selection of reference cases and textual references to explore the standard and motive of Matteo.In chapter 3,we have to discuss the citation phenomenon of The True Meaning of God in 3 steps.Firstly classify the reference cases into Quotation and Allusion,the former with quotation marks while the later without.Then they can also be divided into quoting stories and quoting words.Finally,we focus on the semantic meaning and observe whether the semantic meaning of the text in the original text of the Confucian classics and The True Meaning of God are different.And according to this,we can again divide these cases into positive,negative and borrowing.In the fourth part,based on the theory of intertextuality,we will explore the deeper reasons behind the features of the citation of The True Meaning of God from the three angles of linguistics,sociology and psychology.In the last chapters,we have summed up some problems in the reference cases,including the misuses of "Er Shun" "Shenhou Tianxia" and the excessive annotations of the "God","ghost God" and other concepts.Through this research,we do hope to exlore the effective way of how China and the West,this two different cultures communicate with each other and Trigger some new thinking on the theory of interculture and foreign culture teaching.
