| As exchanges between China and the world grow, interpreting plays a more and more important role in a variety of fields. There have emerged more extensive and multifaceted requirements of interpretation and studies of interpreting theory and practice have been developed and enriched dramatically. This report is based on the C-E consecutive interpreting practice of The Thousand and One Nights series, which,on the emerging we-media,has been drawing a large number of internet followers. As a talk show,The Thousand and One Nights is reputed for its independent-thinking,idiosyncratic way of presenting, relatability, and manner of orienting modern people to a more civilized world.Eco-translatology,proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen in 2006,is an ecological approach to interpretation studies.Under the principle of multidimensional adaptations and adaptive selections(i.e.,linguistic,cultural,and communicative dimensions),the theory puts forward that interpretation is a selective activity of the interpreter in order to adapt to the ecological environment of interpretation. These concepts and principle of the Eco-translatology are applied to this report. This practice report applies the Eco-translatology to analyze the case of The Thousand and One Nights and make post-interpreting reflections.First, the author analyzes difficulties encountered during interpreting process on linguistic, cultural and communicative levels. Then, the interpreter explores how she adapts to the specific interpretational eco-environment and selects interpreting methods to transform on the linguistic, cultural and communicative levels in order to produce the oral rendition with the highest degrees of holistic adaptation and selection. The author provides enormous examples to illustrate the proposed strategies. It is hoped that this report can be of some help for interpreting learners who have interest in interpreting cultural talk show. |
