The aim of this thesis is to study Nida‘s Functional Equivalence Theory in the guidance of children‘s literature translation.According to Functional Equivalence Theory, the translation should not be limited to the original form, but needs to be adjusted both in form and structure where necessary,so that the translation can achieve equivalence in conveying the original messages, and the target readers can have the same response as that of the original readers. The Functional Equivalence Theory, taking ?readers‘ response? as the core, plays an important conductive role in children‘s literature translation.Considering the special physiological and psychological characteristics of children readers, the translator needs to adjust the original structure and uses simple, understandable, and lively language,so that the target children readers can have the same response as that of the original readers, and experience the same feelings. This thesis is carried out, based on Nida‘s Functional Equivalence Theory,to analyze the Chinese version of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer from the perspectives of meaning equivalence, stylistic equivalence and culture equivalence.Meanwhile, this thesis is to discuss the translation of children‘s,in this practical case,so as to prove the applicability of Functional Equivalence Theory in the translation of children‘s literature.Zhang Yousong‘s version has been popular among all the Chinese versions, published by People‘s Literature Publishing House and reprinted many times, which provides great inspiration for the translation studies of children‘s literature.Through the analysis of the Chinese version of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,Nida‘s Functional Equivalence Theory is applicable in guiding the translation of children‘s literature both theoretically and practically.Theoretically, this thesis uses Functional Equivalence Theory to analyze Zhang Yousong‘s translation, and verifies the guiding role and explanatory power of the theory in children‘s literature translation.Practically speaking, through the analysis of the Chinese version of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, this thesis can give some inspiration to the translators of children‘s literature on how to achieve functional equivalence, and help to achieve functional equivalence in the translation of children‘s literature.
