Aesthetics Of Xiaosu’s Story

Xiaosu is a good storyteller.He shows his talents in storytelling when Chinese literature has generally lost or weakened the capability of telling stories.This paper analyzes the aesthetics of Xiaosu’s Story in three aspects:Firstly,Xiaosu’s novel is full of story flavor.He perfectly combines story and novels.The stories he writes can all develop into novels,as he fills his novels with good stories at the same time.Xiaosu always writes his own stories,stories specifically told by Xiaosu.He leads the readers back to the tradition of storytelling.It’s definitely not the simple form of returning to stories,but to put his understanding in the traditional and primordial stories,to impart the cause and effect to the events,and to be bold in innovations,which provides the simple stories with dramatic endings and enables people to find "shock" in the returning of stories,and thus makes the unique color and characteristic of Xiaosu’s novel.Secondly,the comedic meaning of Xiaosu’s novels.Xiaosu combines the traditional with the modern.His stories contain the modern urban literature which takes the desire-narrating as the main body,together with the traditional rural literature which mainly takes the natural way of narration.Desire writing is a major part of modern novel,containing power,money,humanity and sexual desire etc.Tactfully putting these desires into two environments which are generally impressed as pure and ascetic,one is the closed and backward village Youcai Po,the other is the so-called ivory tower,the campus.Xiaosu uses paradox narration and absurd aesthetic to express the comedic meaning in stories,revealing the anguish and human nature of people living at the bottom of society,satirizing the lack of belief and moral degeneration in urban civilization,which makes the stories profound and full of practical significance.Thirdly,folk fun in Xiaosu’s novels.He combines folk stories with popular culture.His story-based novels come under the folk culture of the popular literature in narrative.He popularizes the narration,makes the stories more folk,and by extracting the profound connotation of folk culture,he incorporates the regional culture and folk customs into the stories.He displays the folk fun by diversified narrative perspectives and colloquial expressions,and tells folk stories in a popular way.Whether the narrative language,or the angles and methods of storytelling,or the folk custom and convention woven into the stories,they all go with the common feature of folk culture and popular culture-popularity.Both the popularity of folk culture and the contemporary feeling are conveyed vividly and incisively in Xiaosu’s stories,which passes the traditional virtue advocated by folk culture and the rebellious spirit peculiar to the popular culture to the readers in the meanwhile,forming a non-mainstream,non-ideological,and non-utilitarian values,which is exactly what Xiaosu has always been pursuing-writing interesting novels.
