Modal adverbs is an important part in modern Chinese.It is also the most complex and the most special class in modern Chinese.The individual difference between the internal members is relatively large.It has always been valued by linguists,and is fruitful in recent years.It has a breakthrough both in terms of macroscopic research and microscopic research.Its’ second class is becoming more and more delicate.However,it has to be said that there are still many differences and problems to be solved in the study of modal adverbs.Among them,when used as a modal adverb,the meaning and usage of"queshi" and "zhuoshi" is very close.They often can be replaced in sentence.But after careful analysis,we found that there are many differences between them in many aspects,which are waiting us to explore.On the basis of predecessors’ research,this thesis selected the alleged model adverbs"queshi" and "zhuoshi" as main research object.It makes quantitative and qualitative analysis from a large number of real corpora.It compares their differences in syntax,semantics and pragmatics from the perspective of synchronic.It also investigate their semantic evolution from the perspective of diachronic.We hope to deepen the understanding of the two,to provide some ideas and methods for this kind of synonyms differentiate,to promote exploration of the modal adverbs’ internal character,and to provide some references for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This thesis consists of five chapters.chapter one is "Introduction".Chapter five is"Conclusion".The other three chapters compare the differences between them in syntax,semantics and pragmatics.Chapter one:Introduction.First of all,it gives a detailed description of the topic.Then it introduces the research status of modal adverbs.and it briefly discusses the research status of these two words in the academic circle.Chapter two:Syntactic contrast.First,inspect the syntactic position of "queshi" and"zhuoshi"(including "in the sentence"、"at the front of the sentence"、"located at the end of the sentence"、"independent use")Second,study the differences in syntactic collocation,which focuses on their collocation with auxiliary verbs,adjectives,modal adverbs and modal particle at the end of the sentence.Chapter three:Semantic comparison.First,enumerate and sum up the dictionary definitions of "queshi" and "zhuoshi";Then the semantic differences were examined from three aspects:personal verification,degree confirmation and subjective annotation.And the semantic evolution process of the two is also studied from the diachronic Angle.Chapter four:Comparison of pragmatics.First,investigate the differences between"queshi" and "zhuoshi" in the language selection and sentence selection.Second,focus function and expression function is summarized,we find that "queshi" has six expression functions:to persuade、to summarize、to certainly agree、to gently refuse and to elaborate,"zhuoshi" has juse two expression functions:to talk and to laugh at themselves.In addition,"queshi" generally has a preset.It also has discourse coherence function.Chapter five:conclusion.According to the description of the above four chapters,we summarize the similarities and differences between "queshi" and "zhuoshi" in syntax,semantics and pragmatics,so as to make the conclusion clear.
