On Haruki Murakami’s Novel View:A Perspective Of Japanese Classic Literature Theory And An Analysis On Thoughts Of Mononoaware

Japanese writer Haruki Murakami has been writing for over three decades since the publication of Hear the Wing Sing in 1979,creating 13 full-length novels,11 short story collections,and a bulk of other literature such as essays,travel notes and documentary writings in succession.And a buzz of Murakami literature has gone viral in the world.In the work,a sign of the establishment of his unique view of novel,he discussed the purpose,function and consequence of a novel through the systematic review,analysis on his writing experience,from the perspective of his persistent focuses,identity,healing and empathy consciousness.He insisted on the westernization of his work was not true,although literature critics slashed his trend of de-japanization,deviation of Japanese aesthetic tradition,on the basis of Japanese-oriented classic literature Thoughts of Mononoaware,which sum up as theory by Motoori Norinaga.in light of the the deep influence of western literature.In fact,his works shed a light on the deep connection with Japanese classic literature.From an analysis of Thoughts of Mononoaware,this paper based on his view from the book,self-evidence,healing and empathy consciousness,analyzes the similarity between Haruki Murakami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory of Thoughts of Mononoaware,and Murakami’s creative practice on his novel.This paper can be divided into three parts of introduction,main body with three chapters and conclusion.The part of introduction summarizes Haruki Murakami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory,main aspects of research at home and abroad on Haruki Murakami’s novel and the adopted research methods in this paper.In view of the similarities between Thoughts of Mononoaware and his works,this paper pursues the research methods of psychology,comparative literature,narratology,socio-historic criticism and textual close reading criticism to analyze his novel view of identity,healing,empathy and consciousness.And highlight Haruki Murakami’s unique thinking through unfolding the close connection between Haruki Murakami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory.The fist chapter targets at his view of self-evidence mentioned in his novel,tracing back the origin and development of self-evidence in his essays,and drawing a conclusion supported by the psychology of literary creation that the essence of self-evidence is "Identity".The interpretation on purpose of a novel from Haruki Murakami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory is expressed in this paper.Which explains how Haruki Murakami going further based on Thoughts of Mononoaware,and the development of new novel theory of literature resuming its position.1Q84 evolves the traditional words into new words of new century.The chapter 2 focuses on "Healing"mentioned in his novel,looking back his attention on healing issues.Setting the topic of healing amid the background of Japanese society and history and personal background of Haruki Murakami’s growth,this paper explains the great importance of "healing" in his novels.Meanwhile the key point of this chapter is the comparison on the function of novel between Haruki Murakami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory,telling the story of how Murakami proposing his new concept of healing via violence provided by Thoughts of Mononoaware and the shift from theory to practice through The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.The theme of chapter 3 is the empathy consciousness expressed from his novels.In his opinion,the essence of novel is the connection and spirit resonance,which are his principle of creating.This chapter defines connection and spirit resonance and incorporating them as empathy consciousness.The connection of impermanence outlook and view of life between Haruki Marukami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory is highlighted to discuss the process of transforming Thoughts of Mononoaware into the rebuilt of myth,and the practice of intertextuality with Japanese traditional literature.The last part concludes the succession relation between Haruki Murakami’s novel view and Motoori Norinaga’s theory,unfolding the innovation of his novel in aspects of narrative structure,aesthetic taste and spiritual connotation and Thoughts of Mononoaware as the foundation of his three core principle of identity,healing,empathy and consciousness.Stimulated by his view of novel,Haruki Murakami creates unique works with national characteristic and global consensus,dging attempts to avoiding the violence in Japanese culture and shouldering the responsibility of Japanese intellectuals towards history issues,namely facing up Japanese history,reflecting the action of aggression against China.Which fully demonstrate his spirit of anti-war,against system oppression and ultimate pursuit of freedom.
