Vocabulary plays a very important role in language learning.Vocabulary teaching is a hot topic in English teaching.With the continuous development of vocabulary teaching methods,the vocabulary teaching effect is a persistently concerned topic for scholars.Considering the current situation of vocabulary teaching in Chinese senior high schools and drawing lessons from previous researches of applying Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction to English vocabulary teaching,the present study attempts to further explore the effect of Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction on vocabulary learning for students with poor English foundation.Based on Theory of Depths of Processing and Chunking Theory,the present study aims to answer the following research questions:1.Can English vocabulary teaching based on Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction facilitate Senior 3 students' memory of words ?2.Can English vocabulary teaching based on Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction improve Senior 3 students' vocabulary learning interest ?The subjects of the experiment are Senior 3 students with poor English basis,from Linchen middle school in Linchen Town,Huazhou County.The control class(CC)adopted the traditional vocabulary teaching method while the experimental class(EC)used the Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction.The experiment lasted for 10 weeks.During the experiment,pre-test and post test were carried out in both two classes.By comparing the test data of these two classes,the author analyzed the influence of Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction on students' vocabulary memory.To answer the second question,the same questionnaire was conducted to the students of the EC before and after the experiment,aiming to learn about the effect of teaching experiment on students' vocabulary learning interest.In addition,to further explore the effect of English vocabulary teaching based on Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction on students' memory of words and vocabulary learning interest,the author interviewed 9 students in the EC according to the scores of the post test.Through the empirical data analysis,it can be concluded that English vocabulary teaching based on Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction can facilitate Senior 3 students' memory of words and improve their vocabulary learning interest.The experimental results reveal that students with poor English foundation can also benefit from Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction.So it is feasible to propel English vocabulary teaching based on Memory Strategy of Chunk Construction in senior high schools.Besides,the results of the tests and interview indicate that students who regularly reviewed the target words achieve better memory effect,but it is not that the longer the revision is,the better its effect will be.
