This thesis is to give convincing proof of the applicability of Eugene A.Nida's theories of formal and functional equivalence in fiction translation through the translation practice of the fust two chapters of the bestseller I've Got Your Number,written by British writer,Slphie Kinsella.The diesis consists of five chaptersChapter One brieily describes the task,including the background,the significance and purpose of this thesis.Chapter Two focuses on the translation process,including theliterature review on the featrues of bestselling fiction,review and analysis of I've Got Your Nunber and the preparation of the translation tools.Chapter Three serves as the theoretical framework,elaborating the development and foundation of ghe theory of equivalence,the main concepts of this theory and attempting to comment that the translation of bestselling fictions should follow the principles of formal equivalence and functional equivalence.The author of this thesis tries to incorporate Nida's functional equivalence and formal equivalence theories further into literary translation and aims to help solve the translation obstacles.Chapter Four offers the concrete and detailed analysis of the application of equivalence theory in the translation practice of I've Got Your Number,bombining semantic equivalence,syntactical equivalence,contextual equivalence representation of fictional key factors such as characters,plot,setting and point of vikw.Also included in Chapter Four is the readers' feedback and improvement.After the practice and discussion,conclusion is put forward in Chapter Five that a good bestsellingfiction translation should not only take into account the correct and faithful conveyance of the meaning but also intgrate the related elements and faithfully redisplay them in the target text.In a nutshell,the features of fiction and creativity involved is translation lead to the applicability of theory of form and functional equivalence in translatin of fiction.
