The MICE economy has played an increasingly important role in the Chinese economy, which consequently draws a widespread attention to such related issues as MICE interpretations and the cultivation of professional MICE interpreters. The MICE translated titles in China,as the eyes of the MICE,do have some common translation problems. In the context of such a globalization background, the quality and effect of the MICE title translations are closely related to the image of the host city and even the entire country. Therefore,it should be taken seriously and deserves an attention equivalent to its importance. The study uses the Text Typology of Peter Newmark to analyze the text types and functions of the MICE titles and makes a comparison with the parallel texts – the local MICE titles in the United States.Taking the MICE titles from Shanghai and Zhengzhou as examples, the author summarizes some typical translation mistakes and errors in Chinese MICE title translations: the placement of time indicators, the repetition of host places, the choice of head nouns, the usage of function words and the length of titles. The study shows that the Skopos theory of Reiss and Vermeer has a relatively strong explanatory power for the translation of the MICE titles.Under the guidance of its Purpose Rule, the informative function and the vocative function of the MICE titles can be realized;with the help of its Coherence Rule, the aesthetic function can be achieved;and the Fidelity Rule can serve as the guidance to perfect the informative function. In the end,the author proposed two main strategies for MICE title translations: domestication and foreignization.Of course, the top priority goes to the domestication since the main purpose of these domestic MICE,who are now stepping onto the world stage,is to attract more potential international participants. The strategy of domestication involves such translation techniques as omission, acronym, abbreviation, avoidance of unnecessary information and regulation of the punctuation;while the strategy of foreignization is sometimes applied as the translation activity carries with itself the obligation to promote Chinese culture, which includes: adaptation to the Chinese culture and exaggeration.
