| As a translation project report on documentary captions from Chinese to English, this report describes one task conducted by the author for translating first two episodes of A Taste of Yunnan released on CCTV-9 in 2015.A Taste of Yunnan is a Chinese documentary to show delicious food, cuisine cultures and people feelings in Yunnan Province. So this translation project report plays a positive role in the popularization of Chinese food and Yunnan culture. This report focuses on two problems possibly in translating documentary captions from Chinese to English in light of aesthetic translation, namely, being present in translationese at lexical level and being absent from cultural facsimile at syntactic level. The case analysis is conducted from following three aspects, that is,translation of dish names, local words and phrases, four characters, translation of long sentences and Chinese cooking methods, and translation of documentary text. Finally, the report concludes that the aesthetic translation subject can give full play to subjective dynamic to avoid translationese by aesthetic capacity, and Chinese sentences in chronicle style and Chinese sentences without subjects can be dealt with via aesthetic improvement to pursue cultural facsimile. However,to express the beauty of source language, deletions and paraphrases are suggested to use in translating documentary captions due to limitations of time and space. |
