Peer rejection is a sign of social adversities for children. The accumulation of peer rejection events will lead to children's emotional and behavioral problems, which is the significant risk factors influenced on the development of children and adolescents. When children experience the peer difficulties, adults tend to provide more care and support to mitigate the pain and sufferings. And social support is the essential mental resources of the individual, especially for children who tend to look more external support. This study analyzed 115 children from grade3-grade6 of primary school by a 2(social support: high\low)×2(Peer rejection: high\low)×2(support reminders: before\after support reminders)three-factor mixed design. The purposes of this study is to research the effect of social support on negative emotional reactions after children encountered the peer rejection and the effect of support reminders and the level of Peer rejection. This study had been found:(1)The peer rejection procedure effectively induced negative emotional reactions, and the high and low levels of peer rejection can induce negative emotions in different degrees.(2)Social support generally protected children's negative emotional reactions which supported the main effect of social support.Speak specifically, children with high social support had fewer negative emotion reactions than the children with low social support in both before and after they were faced the peer rejection, which was independent of whether peer rejection or not and the levels of peer rejection.(3)The effect of support reminders was different between high and low social support.More specifically, compared to the low social support, children of high social support reported greater decrease in negative emotional reactions after when children recalled the people cared and supported them and the things happened among them.(4)When children recalled the people and things reflected support, social support mitigated the negative emotional reactions as a whole. However, this effect was different between the high and low levels of peer rejection. For children of high social support, children reported greater decrease in negative emotional reactions in high peer rejection than the low peer rejection. But there was no significant difference in children of low social support.(5)There was obvious differences in the total amount of each emotional reactions between the group of high and low levels of social support, whenever the negative emotional reactions were measured in three time points. The children of high social support always less than the low social support children. It is the result that attests the main effect again,in particular, social support had general protection on the negative emotional reactions, which was independent of the accident of peer rejection. This study support the main effect of social support, that social support play the general protection on the negative emotions in both before and after the peer rejection, which also exist in stress and stress-free situation.Furthermore, support reminders and the levels of peer rejection have impacts on the main effect of social support. This study attempt to integrate and verify the general protection of social support on the negative emotional reactions, which enrich the theory of the main effect of social support and offer suggestions for intervention studies and educational practices.
