A Report On The Translation Of East Asian And Pacific Cities:Expanding Opportunities For The Urban Poor(Chapter 5)

With the acceleration of urbanization,a large number of cities have gained rapid economic growth.Meantime,however,urbanization has brought about some adverse effect as well.As a vulnerable group,the urban poor should be treated equally and paid special attention.The translation in this report has discussed how the government guarantees their development opportunities in the process of urbanization.It is believed that the Chinese translation of such reports can provide useful references and inspiration to experts and scholars in related fields.The source text of this translation practice report is selected from chapter 5 of East Asian and Pacific Cities:Expanding Opportunities for the Urban Poor,which is mainly concerned with the problems about the urban poor in the process of urbanization in East Asian and Pacific cities and some guiding principles over these issues.It mainly puts forward to improve the living conditions of the urban poor by promoting economical,spatial and social inclusion for this group.Based on the eco-translatology theory proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen,some strategies have been employed in translation.Eco-translatology theory,with purpose to guarantee the effect and quality of translation,emphasizes translation adaptation and selection from three dimensions,namely linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension.This report has analyzed translation adaptation and selection from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.Specific translation methods include addition,conversion,adjusting sentence order,reorganizing sentence and breaking long sentence.It is expected to offer some limited but constructive reference.
