A Study On The Effects Of Nostalgia On Loneliness

The positive significance of nostalgia for both individuals and society is getting more and more attention from psychological researchers.Nostalgia plays an active role in regulating negative emotions,protecting and developing self,promoting interpersonal interaction,and constructing the meaning of life and existence.At the social level,nostalgia also has many applications in marketing,tourism management,and psychological counseling and treatment.At the same time,as a negative experience known to the public,loneliness is also a very important topic in the fields of psychology,sociology and medicine.However,there is not enough research on the effect of nostalgia on loneliness,and the interaction and influence mechanism of the two are still to be revealed.This study investigated the effects of nostalgia on loneliness through questionnaire and experiment.In addition,in view of predecessors' study to evoke nostalgia is too single,the launch of the paradigm and to evoke nostalgia in real life in addition to individual consciously and actively start,there are many external stimulations can start the individual's nostalgia,therefore this study joined the passive nostalgic start model were compared with the classical active nostalgic start.Also,considering the nostalgia is a kind of life experience emotions associated,between individuals of different generations in terms of content and trigger a nostalgic nostalgia stimulus has difference,this study compared the group of college students and the elderly on nostalgic differences and the impact of nostalgia on loneliness.The main conclusions of this study are:1)Both active and passive nostalgia can reduce the level of loneliness of the individual,and active nostalgia is better than passive nostalgia for the relief effect of loneliness.2)Under the two trigger conditions,nostalgia has different effects on the loneliness of college students and the old people,the influence of different nostalgia trigger to reduce loneliness in college students and the elderly human indifference,and passive nostalgia to reduce loneliness in college students are better than the old.3)In the college students' group,although the nostalgia of both conditions can reduce the loneliness of the subjects,the difference between the two kinds of nostalgia is not obvious;in the elderly group,only active nostalgia can significantly reduce the loneliness of the subjects,while passive nostalgia has no obvious effect.
