In the factors that affect foreign language learning,the study of learner factors has increased in recent years.Among them,the emotional factors have been studied by many scholars,and especially the anxiety has been paid attention by many scholars.In the study of class participation,many studies have shown that emotional factor is an important factor that influences students' participation in the classroom.However,there is less research on the correlation between class anxiety and class participation in China.Therefore,it is necessary to study the correlation between anxiety and participation.English majors and English class are my study environment.The subject is 100 English majors from undergraduate freshmen and sophomores of Yan'an University.The instruments are questionnaires and interviews.The anxiety questionnaire is Horwitz's Classroom Anxiety Scale.The participation questionnaire is based on Wu Guanyu and Ma Yunxia's scale on class participation.In order to get deep opinion about anxiety and participation,some students are interviewed.After the dada are collected,Spss 20.0 data analysis software are used to analyze and summarize the data.The purpose of this study is to investigate the current situation of English majors' English class anxiety and class participation,and also the correlation between them.The main findings are as follows:(1)the anxiety of English majors exists in the English class,but it is not very high.The level of anxiety is general.Foreign language learning anxiety in class is mainly caused by test anxiety and negative evaluation fear.In other words,if these two aspects of anxiety are reduced,students' English learning anxiety can be reduced.(2)In terms of class participation,it is found that the level of participation ofEnglish majors in the classroom is generally low.In other words,these students do not participate in class actively.(3)For the correlation between the anxiety in classroom and the participation,on the whole,the anxiety in English class of students is significantly and negatively related to their participation.Among them,specifically,the subscales of anxiety: communication anxiety,negative evaluation anxiety and general anxiety are significantly and negatively correlated with the class participation,and communication anxiety,negative evaluation anxiety and general anxiety also significantly and negatively correlated with willingness and knowing-the-answer participation.The test anxiety is significantly and negatively correlated with participation willingness.At the same time,according to the results of the study,three teaching suggestions are given: first,inspire students' interest;second,establish a good teacher-student relationship;finally,help students build up confidence,which can help students to reduce anxiety in the spoken language class so as to improve language learning.
