Research On Eagleton's Literary And Artistic Theory In The Post Theoretical Period

After theory is the turning point of Eagleton's criticism practice.Since then,his theoretical research has begun to show more concerns for theology,philosophy and ethics.But there is no doubt that literature and literary theory are still his foothold and starting point.Through the study of his relate and analyze about the essence of literature,the form and content of literature,the value and significance of literature in his books How to read a poem,How to read literature and The event of literature,as well as his literary criticism practice,we found that he had a tendency to return to grand narration in his view of these issues,from the early approval of cultural theory to criticize the problems of Cultural theory such as trifling,weak and moral deviation.The main purpose of this paper is to make a comprehensive study of Eagleton's literary and artistic thoughts in the post theoretical era.In order to achieve a more comprehensive display of Eagleton's thinking about the trend of literary criticism in the post theory period,and on this basis,combined with the present social situation,it provides some reference for the problems that have not yet been fully recognized in the literary and artistic aspects.This article mainly studies from the following aspects:The first part analyzes Eagleton's views on the nature of literature.This part mainly analyzes the transformation of Eagleton's under standing of the essence of literature.From the early thought that literature has no essence to later thought that literature has a similar nature of "family resemblance",Eagleton's literary theory has come back to the Meta problem.The second part analyzes Eagleton's understanding of literary criticism and studies its specific practice of criticism.This part contrasts the differences of the literary criticism in Eagleton's front and back period.From the early ideological criticism to the later form criticism,Eagleton always adheres to the position of the social and historical criticism,but his later criticism practice has begun to integrate various literary theories and make the different characteristics of different types of literature.The third part shows the emphasis on ethical issues in Eagleton's post theory era.In his literary theory and critical practice,Eagleton criticized the negligence of the cultural theory,and emphasized the ethics as a backdrop to the problems of vulgar,generalized and reduced in some literary criticism and theory.
