Pre-interpretation Preparation In Consecutive Interpreting

With the rapid development of China in recent years,exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in the world have become more frequent.As an indispensable part of international exchanges,interpretation has gradually attracted the attention of the public.This instantaneous activity of language transfer has won a lot of praise.However,few people notice that this high-intensive activity requires a lot of preparation for the interpreter before the task.This paper is a practice report mainly focusing on the pre-interpretation preparation during the process of interpreting.Based on her own interpreting experience in China-ASEAN Science and Technology Industry & Enterprises Cooperation Conference,the author details her preparation process which includes translation of the script,getting background information of the speakers,thematic knowledge preparation,terminology building and on-site preparation.Then through case analysis,the report highlights the importance of pre-interpreting preparation.Meanwhile,the author realizes that though pre-interpretation preparation is of paramount importance,the interpreter should always pay attention to the long-term study as the foundation for better interpreting.Therefore,the author offers some suggestions on pre-interpretation preparation in the hope that they might be of some help to other interpreting trainees.
