| In the current era of economic globalization, intellectual property,as an important intangible asset, plays an increasingly important role in economic development. The number of international patent applications has been increasing year by year, and the resulting demand for patent translation has continued to increase. However, problems such as the lack of professional translators and a unified translation standard appear.Meanwhile, few if any scholars and translators have ever applied a specific translation theory into the translation of the patent text, and even fewer have pondered over the translation of patentability reports, one of the important documents deriving from the process of patent application. This paper is a practice report on the C-E translation of the written opinions of the international searching authority(WOSA for short below). The author studies the problems appearing from the C-E translation process of WOSA from a new perspective of Skopos theory, and then concludes effective strategies to improve the translation quality through methods of document analysis, case analysis, and comparative research. It proves that under the guidance of Skopos theory, problems in the target text such as disordered sentence structures,non-standard expressions, and inconsistent contexts can be effectively solved by means of lexical conversion, fixed expressions, sentence structure adjustment, topic sentence recognition, and building termbase. Therefore, this report will have some guiding significance for patent translators, especially for WOSA translators. |
