The Evolution Of The Harlequin Style Of Sichuan Opera

As one of the local operas of Chinese opera,the harlequin play of Sichuan Opera has inherited the characteristics of the folk culture of Bayu while inheriting the culture of Chinese opera and formed a unique form of plastic art.According to the analysis of the Paiyou in Qin period,Canggu in the Tang dynasty,the harlequin of the Yuan Dynasty and the formation and development of the harlequins in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The development of the harlequin style of the Sichuan Opera experienced a long historical process.In the view of the cultural heritage of the harlequins in the Sichuan Opera,the paper discusses the aesthetic norms and unique forms of the harlequins in the Sichuan Opera,tries to explain the essential features and the harlequin styling,the innovative application and inspiration of the formal language to the costume design from the following four aspects:First,it summarizes the history of the development of the harlequin style of the Sichuan opera,the emergence of sacrificial rituals,the sprouting of Paiyou in the Qin and Han dynasties,Canggu in the military drama during the Sui,Tang and five dynasties,the Panted-face role in Zaju during the Song and Jin Dynasty,the formation of the Harlequin in the integration of the Southern Opera in the Yuan and Ming dynasties and so on.The paper reviews the development and evolution of the harlequin styling in the Sichuan Opera to provide the basis for the specification and form of the harlequin styling.The second is to analyze the types and design connotations of the harlequins in the Sichuan Opera.According to the identity,status,appearance,roles and gender of the roles in the repertoire,the type of the harlequin styling is the basic form of the harlequin styling art.The third is to make a concrete analysis of the norms and forms of the harlequin styling in the Sichuan Opera.The aesthetic norms of the harlequin styling are reflected in the four aspects of “imitation”,“lyrical freehand”,“lifelike”,and “virtual reality”;The analysis reflects a lively and interesting harlequin modelling and aesthetic cultural spirit coordinates.The fourth is the analysis of the application of the typical elements of the harlequin in the modern costume design.From the beauty of modern costume design embodied in elements such as dress and makeup,color and structure,it shows the relevance of people’s life and conforms to modern aesthetics development trend.Finally,the paper combines the costumes and makeup of the harlequins of the Sichuan Opera with the innovative application of the overall design,pattern,color,and style of the modern costume design,it gives the practical value of modern costume design,builds anew bridge of communication between tradition and fashion,and shows the rich cultural heritage of harlequin style.In the diversified development of modern art design,modern dress and makeup design should reflect the integration of aesthetics and life,technology and art.This article combines the modeling of the Harlequin in the Sichuan Opera with the modern costume design to provide a reference for modern costume design,and enhance people’s understanding and experience of traditional culture.
