| This thesis attempts to discuss tourism translation from the perspective of imagology.The intrinsic connection between tourism translation and imagology provides reasonable basis for the interdisciplinary research.Image is divided into three parts(existing image,ST image and TT image)according to image carriers in the background of tourism translation.In the view of this thesis,proper image can guide tourism translation as culture image did in translating Chinese classics.Conversely,the purpose of tourism translation is generating proper TT image.This’paradox’ shows that the process of tourism translation is accompanied with the mechanism of TT image regeneration,which contains two sub-processes-’image identification’ and ’image regeneration’.In order to demonstrate that mechanism clearly,a three-level theoretical framework is constructed.The macro level of theoretical framework provides guidelines for image identification process.The medium and micro levels of theoretical framework serve as manipulative means during tourism translation.The TT image carried by the translation is the regenerated TT image.Current studies on tourism translation apply western theories excessively and many scholars attach too much stress to establishing complicated tourism translation models or to abstract theoretical explanations.This thesis absorbs essence of domestic translation studies to construct a manipulative theoretical framework and introduce a concrete perspective-imagology perspective.In chapter four,concrete case analyses illustrate the mechanism of TT image regeneration under this theoretical framework.Imagology can provide a concrete perspective to evaluate and improve the quality of tourism translation.From the perspective of imagology,the start point of translation is existing image rather than the ST.ST images are subject to necessary adaptation in translation in accordance with their historical and cultural connotations and the guidance of the tourism administration office.After that,an identified ideal image will play the role as a parameter to guide tourism translation.Then a proper,concise and attractive TT image is regenerated.The effectiveness of the research,on one hand,depends on the reasonable and flexible application of the theoretical framework.On the other hand,it depends on the translator’s ability of adaptation and selection. |
