"Laugh" is one of the most commomly used verbs in modern Chinese.There are lots of members in the word group of laugh,which is also an important part of senmantic description and analysis.The main work in the thesis was summarized as follows: 1.By having a concise diachronic investigation of "Laugh" verbs to establish that "Laugh" has played a core role in the word group of "Laugh".And lay a foundation for the study of "Laugh" verbs in modern Chinese through investigating the bisyllablization process of it.2.On the basis of its semantic features and its performance in actual utterance,"Laugh" verbs can be classified into two major categories: "Laugh1" which refers to a facial gesture,and "Laugh2" which implies the discourse attitude.3.With referring the "Synset-Lexeme Anamorphosis" Methoed,this paper aims at establishing a comparatively comprehensive semantic network of "Laugh" verbs in modern Chinese.The establishment of "Laugh" verbs' semantic network involves several aspects of linguistic,including semantics,grammar,pragmatics,culture,co gnition and so on.It is benefitial to present the macro appearance of the whole word group system of "Laugh" and deepen the understanding of this important word group in Chinese.Besides,it can also provide theoretical reference and knowledge framework for Teaching Chinese as a second language,especially for the advanced Chinese vocabulary teaching.This is also the purpose of this study.
