An Analysis Of Intelligibility Of Arabic Translations Of The China’s Arab Policy Paper

With the continuous deepening and expanding of China’s “One Belt,One Road” initiative,the friendly relations and cooperation between China and the Arab world continue to grow.In the process of frequent exchanges between China and its Arabic partners,China has been considering how to vividly make it better understood by means of telling the Chinese stories,gaining deeper knowledge about the Communist Party of China and its policies,the Chinese path,as well as the differences in ideology between China and Arab countries,which has become a central study topic in academia in the field of Sino-Arab relations.Due to kinds of reasons,Arab countries are still at the beginning of comprehension of China’s politics,strategies and diplomacy,and they obtain most information about China from western countries in a large part.All of these hindered formations of the objective knowledge between the two.In 2016,H.E.Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded his state visit to Saudi Arabia,Egypt and Iran.At the same time,The Chinese government released the China’s Arab Policy Paper and its English,Arabic and French versions,in which it delivered a strong signal that China was comprehensively going to strengthen its diplomatic ties with Arabic countries.Responding to the “Belt and Road Initiative”,T&I Professionals Training Center for League of Arab States Countries that was established at GIIT,Shanghai International Studies University,jointly commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,the Ministry of Education,and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States;altogether 13 students from 7 Arabic countries were enrolled.This project,served as one of the significant milestones of Shanghai Foreign Studies University,aimed at implementing Xi’s initiative and the national results of the China’s Arab Policy Paper.What’s more,training nearly 100 outstanding Chinese Arabic translators for the Arab countries was also involved as one of the project,which is targeted at exchanging interpreting and translating expertise between Chinese and Arabic translators and promoting cooperation with each other to cultivate excellent practitioners who might be future players in areas of promoting friendship and deepening understanding.In this paper,12 Arabic students were selected from the second course of T&I Professionals Training Center for League of Arab States Countries as subjects to explore the translating intelligibility and accuracy of the China’s Arab Policy Paper.The outcome showed that this intelligibility generally manifests a relatively optimistic degree,but many petty expressions and translation choices in the text need to be reconsidered and revised again.Hence,based on the survey results,the author provides a better reference regarding some translating expressions in the China’s Arab Policy Paper which were extracted and abstracted from the survey results.
