Note-taking refers to the process of encoding.In this period,students link the new knowledge to the old actively,which formats migration.Meanwhile,Note-taking can help students to improve the ability of self-learning which has good effects on English learning.As for The New Curriculum Standards of Junior High School English(2011),it points out that students should be good at grasping the focus,taking notes and organizing what they have learned.Therefore,it is important for students to develop the habit of taking notes.However,the current status about the note-taking strategy is not optimistic.So it is necessary to study the note-taking strategy employment of junior high school students in English learning.The study is based on information processing theory and meta-cognitive theory.It integrates literature review,the questionnaire,and interview with students and teachers.The research questions 228 students and analysis some textbooks and notebooks.There are two questions to be studied as follows: 1)What is the current situation of note-taking strategy in junior high school English class? 2)What problems do the students have in the the process of taking notes?This study has lasted for three months.The author analyzed students’ notes in order to know their attitude towards note-taking and the current situation of note-taking strategy.The author distributed the questionnaires to 228 students and received 210 valid questionnaires.After that,the author interviewed three teachers and five students to explore their attitude to note-taking and teachers’ guidance of notes.According to the results of questionnaires and interviews,the author analyzed the problems of note-taking in class,then explored the reasons and put forward some feasible suggestions under the actual situation of junior high school.Major findings of this study are as follows: 1)Junior high school students generally believe that notes are helpful to English learning.2)Although junior high school students have known some normal methods of note-taking,these methods can not meet the needs of the present English learning.Students hope to get the guidance and useful advice fromEnglish teachers.3)The distribution of attention is the main problem for junior high school students to take notes in English class.It’s difficult for them to coordinate listening and note-taking at the same time in class.4)Junior high school students do not pay attention to recitation of notes after class.They are lack of organization and review of English notes.5)English teachers do not give enough guidance in note taking strategies.Teachers should pay attention to the training of note taking strategy for junior students,and teach them effective methods of note-taking.Here are some suggestions for junior teachers.On the one hand,teachers should develop students’ habit of note-taking strategy.On the other hand,teachers should help students to make personalized English notes through mind map,blackboard design,PPT and other ways.
