The diversity of college students has increased with the popularization of higher education, which brings certain difficulties to counselors. The needs of college counselors for learning educational theories have become greater and greater. How to educate students more efficiently has become more and more concerned. The Achievement Habit is a book written by Bernard Roth, which mainly emphasize the mind of designing thinking.According to Peter Newmark’s text typology,it is a typical expressive text. This report is based on the translation project of chapter 6 of The Achievement Habit. The chapter Watch Your Language mainly introduces how to communicate with others with appropriate words while one duty of counselors’ is to help students use communication skills correctly. The translator,as a counselor, aims to provide help for colleagues through the translation of foreign advanced educational theories. The translator prefers to use the Skopos theory to guide the translation activities of long sentences. The most crucial point of applying the Skopos theory to the process of translation activities of long sentences in expressive text is whether the needs of the target readers can be satisfied on the basis of expressing author’s intention correctly.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory, the translator will conduct a detailed analysis of the original text and the target text, and also analyze the methods and techniques, such as literal translation and free translation,as well as conversion of word class, amplification and omission, sequential translation and reverse translation with various examples.By combining the theoretical guidance and the feedback from the target readers, the translator successfully completes the translation and shares it with colleagues, which will contribute much to their study of educational theories. Finally,a research on the expressive text translation has been done.
