| This is a report of the English-Chinese translation practice of economic legal texts. The translation of economic legal texts satisfies the urgent requirements of China’s full integration with the world and is conducive to a better development of economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries.Law on the Management of Quality and Safety of Products and Services in Malta belongs to economic legal texts. On the strength of functional equivalence theory, the translator makes an analysis of the translation of economic legal texts at lexical, syntactic, stylistic and discourse levels, and summarizes the difficulties encountered and strategies employed in the translation process. At the lexical level,it mainly focuses on the difficulties of professional legal terminology, archaic words and common words with specific economic legal meaning. At the syntactic level,it analyzes the difficulties of complex sentences, fixed sentence patterns and passive voice. At the stylistic level,it mainly involves maintaining the rigorous and standardized style of economic legal texts. At the discourse level,it includes how to deal with the cohesion and coherence of the translation.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, certain corresponding solutions are proposed to these difficulties, that is to adopt suitable translation strategies to make the translation fully understood and accepted by the target readers on the basis of restoring the accurate meaning of the source text and conforming to the expressive habits of the target readers. The author claims the important guiding significance of functional equivalence theory for the translation practice, and puts forward some suggestions after introspection, hoping that the recorded translation process and the summarized practical experience can be helpful and better referred to by related translation practice and studies in the future. |
