Research On The Image Of "Female Nationals" In Feminist Novels During The Late Qing Dynasty Abstract

In the late Qing Dynasty,the transitional period when Chinese society transformed from traditionality to modernity,the cultural exchanges between East and West was unprecedentedly active.The phenomenon was fully demonstrated in literary area.The “revolution in fiction circle” contributed to the rapid development of political fictions in the late Qing Dynasty.At the same time,Western feminist theory was introduced,leading to the emergence of Feminist thought in China and a number of fictions reflecting feminist issues Enlightenment thinkers fully realized the importance of women in the construction of a modern country.Therefore,they take “natural rights” and “equality between males and females” as their theoretical basis and the images of “female citizens” as their core,opposing foot-binding,advocating schools for females and striving for the emancipation of mind of females.These literary works which were called feminist fictions reflected social realities,interpreted feminism through various women images and explored path of saving the nation country in ordeal by women.The paper consists of five parts.First,starting from the research status quo in academic circle,I've analyzed some research achievements related to the topic and proposed the feasibility and significance of researching on the thought values of feminist fictions with the core of “female citizens”.Second,I've analyzed the main connotations and tendencies of thoughts of feminist fictions through the analysis of female images such as enlightenment heroines,revolution heroines and awakening heroines.The development trace of “female citizens” has been elaborated from their passive consciousness of enlightenment,active participation in revolutions to the awakening of self-awareness.Then I've analyzed why writers of different genders in their creation construct a country or a nation and shape the images of “female citizens”.Based on the analysis above,I've summarized and studied the complexity and significance of “female citizens”.This id the center part of the paper.Finally,I've tried in the conclusion part to think further about the images of “female citizens” with multiple features in the late Qing Dynasty.Besides,I've tried to reveal the influences of “female citizen” concept interpretations of writers of different genders on the meaning of social gender.
