The source text of this translation project is an excerpt from the International Encyclopedia of Education published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. It contains 4 papers in the study of education with academic nature, which introduces the development trends of Records of Achievement,Educational Assessment,Assessment in School, and Affective Assessment in School Setting.Since the source text has not been translated into Chinese and the Chinese version of it has not been published,to translate this book could not only enhance the translator’s translation ability and improve her knowledge in the study of education, but also bring references to students who are interested in the field of education. The British translation theorist,Peter Newmark divided texts into three categories as follows: vocative texts, expressive texts and informative texts. The source text of the translation report belongs to informative text which aims at transmitting information of the source text, especially the accurate, logic and readable of conveying the information.Peter Newmark proposed that different translation theories conduct different text types, and he pointed out communicative translation theory could be used in informative texts.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, this translation project employs the domestication strategy, taking accuracy, logicality and readability as translation criteria in specific translation examples, summarizing from lexical, syntactic, and contextual level.
