The Irrelevant Speech on Visual Awareness is a typical academic paper in the field of psycholinguistics with formal vocabulary, terminologies and complicated sentence structures, which are not easy to understand and translate. In order to reproduce the original text and maintain the meaning and form of the source text precisely and faithfully, the translation project was finished under the guidance of Peter Newmark's Communicative translation and Semantic translation.Through the translation of the text, the ultimate goal of this translation practice is to discover and summarize the translation strategies and skills of translating this kind of professional text,to solve difficult problems to translate in a native way during the translation and make target language readers to benefit from translation and enhance translators' translation practice ability. The purpose of this research is to find out questions in translation practice and to solve the problems under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation.Such difficulties have been solved as the translation of psycholinguistics terminologies, tables and figures and sentences.Terminologies involved in this paper include two kinds:fixed ones and semi-professional ones. The former can be found in professional dictionaries while the latter can be translated by referring to parallel texts and Dic.CNKI.net.As for tables and figures translation,it is necessary to fully consider the acceptance of target readers. In term of translating long phrases in tables and figures, linear translation or reverse translation should be selected in line with the clear and flexible internal logic modification relation between words.Translation of long sentences and sentences with general pronouns can be completed by using personal pronouns and passive voice after being separated into simple sentences rationally. It is hopeful that research results can be of help to our future translation practice.
