| Phonics is an approach to associate the sounds with spelling and help students memorize words efficiently.Phonics has been introduced into China for more than ten years.Scholars have studied it one after another.It has exerted an important influence on modern English education in China,especially in English vocabulary teaching.On the basis of the existing research,this study,supported by phonological awareness theory and language transfer theory,focuses on phonics,explores whether natural spelling has an impact on junior high school English vocabulary teaching,and studies how to apply phonics in English classroom to promote students’ spelling,pronunciation and stimulate their interests in learning English.This study was conducted in a junior high school affiliated to Shanghai University.The subjects are 30 students from Class 1,Grade 1.The experiment included the three stages.The first stage is a pre-test of students’ spelling and pronunciation abilities in order to understand their current level and find their problems in vocabulary learning before the experiment began.The second stage is that during the process of the experiment teachers explain the natural spelling method and related phonetic knowledge for students,use a variety of teaching methods,and provide students a large number of exercises to consolidate what they have learned.The third stage is to test the students’ vocabulary learning level after the experiment,and to test the students’ spelling and pronunciation ability to test whether phonics can promote the students’ spelling ability,whether it can promote their pronunciation ability and whether it can cultivate their interests in learning vocabulary.The experiment lasted for about a term.Finally,the data are analyzed and concluded.The results show that phonics can improve students’ spelling and pronunciation ability.Through the study of phonics,the students’ scores of post-test in spelling and pronunciation have been significantly improved,and their learning enthusiasm and interests have been greatly enhanced.On the basis of this study,the author puts forward some suggestions for future vocabulary teaching.In addition,the author hopes to promote the professional phonics teaching in a wider range to help children learn English better. |
