Although children are independent individuals, they have immature values and limited cognitive abilities. In particular, there are more and more parents tend to develop children’s habits of reading foreign literature works from a very young age.And the context of the translation works does exert a certain influence on establishing the values of children. In view of this particularity of children readers, the children’s literary works must be in accordance with one’s own culture and children’s language habits.Meanwhile, the translation works should also,on the basis of domestic value orientation, convey new ideas to the children,in order to make them learn different styles of foreign cultures. The theory of medio-translatology emphasizes the unique value and significance of the translation works as a bridge of cross-cultural activity in translating literature works.Besides, under the circumstance that the target readers are relatively unfamiliar with the culture of source languages, the translation standard on medio-translatology focuses on the target readers and reception environment in literary translation. From this perspective, the theory of medio-translatology coincides with the requirements of paying attention to children readers in the translation of children’s literature. In 1911,Peter Pan was published by Scottish novelist James Mathew Barrie, and it is also his most successful work.In addition,Pceter Pa1n is one of the most influential works among British children’s literary works. The translation of Ren Ronarong published in 2008 and another translation of Sun Zhuoran published in 2004 are chosen in the thesis.Under the guidance of medio-translatology,an analysis of the two translated versions would be made from the perspectives of culture and target readers.By studying the children’s acceptability of the culture from the view of different age groups, the thesis aims to provide a new way of thinking and employ suitable translation strategies in translating children’s literary works. The thesis applies the theory of medio-translatology to study Pet.er Pan for the first time, and this research has two main meanings. In theory, through the comparative analysis of its two Chinese translations,it demonstrates the guiding role and communicative function of medio-translatology on the translation of children’s literature. In practice, through the case analysis of Peter Pan,it is found that only the translation works that are children-oriented and are in accordance with language habits of children of different age groups could succeed in the literature market. It is hoped that this study can provide practical theoretical help for the translation of children’s literature. At the same time,it is also hoped that the academic circles could pay more attention to Professor Xie Tianzhen’s theory of medio-translatology and its guiding role in children’s literature translation.
