During the British colonial rule on Egypt,a large number of Jews immigrated to Egypt, and the scale of the Egyptian Jewish community expanded accordingly. In the first half of the 20 th century,Jewish activities in politics, economy, and culture all had important impacts on the development of Egyptian society. However, when the political situation of Middle East changed significantly in the second half of the 20 th century, the Jewish community declined rapidly, and the Jewish community that had existed for thousands of years in Egypt finally withdrew from the historical stage. At present, the academic field lacks systematic research on the development of Egyptian Jewish community since modern times in China.According to domestic and foreign materials, the thesis attempts to discuss the development and decline of Egyptian Jewish community in the 20 th century comprehensively from the perspectives of political participation, economic activities, educational and cultural activities, and the rise of Egyptian anti-Semitic forces. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part traces the origin and evolution of the Egyptian Jewish community with the clue of time, which provides the knowledge background for the following study on Jewish participation in Egyptian political, economic and cultural activities. The second part discusses the political participation of Egyptian Jews. Most Jews gained Egyptian citizenship and they saw themselves as Egyptians.Although the Political participation rate of Egyptian Jews increased significantly, they still failed to truly integrate into Islamic society. The third part introduces the economic situation and economic activities of Egyptian Jews.Jews occupied an important position in Egyptian commercial and financial fields. The fourth part introduces the educational situation and the cultural activities of the Jewish community. With the development of modern education, the educational level of Egyptian Jews had improved, and a number of writers and artists who had made contributions to the development of Egyptian culture emerged among Egyptian Jews. The fifth part focuses on the reasons for the decline of the Egyptian Jewish community in the second half of the 20 th century. The political changes in the Middle East, the rise of Egyptian anti-Semitism and the Zionist movement are the reasons for the decline of the Egyptian Jewish community. The thesis draws the following conclusions: Firstly,in the first half of the 20 thcentury, with the increase of Egyptian Jewish population and the promotion of the social status of Egyptian Jews, the development of Egyptian Jewish community entered a golden period. The increase of Jewish population led to the expansion of community scale, and the promotion of Jewish social status was a critical prerequisite for their participation in political, economic, cultural and other social activities.Secondly,Egyptian Jews actively participated in Egyptian political, economic and cultural activities and contributed to the development of Egyptian society. The communist movement led by the Jews accelerated the process of anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism in Egypt, the economic activities of the Jews accelerated the process of economic modernization in Egypt, and the cultural activities of the Jews promoted the prosperity and development of Egyptian culture.Thirdly, the decline of the Egyptian Jewish community in the second half of the 20 th century mainly attributed to political changes in the Middle East and the rise of anti-Semitic forces in Egypt. In the political context of confrontation between Egypt and Israel, the Egyptian government issued a series of anti-Semitic policies, which transferred the contradiction between Egypt and Israel to the Egyptian Jews, who actually became the victims of Middle East politics. At the same time, changes of Egypt's political situation in the middle of the 20 th century also promoted Zionism movement into the climax stage,Egyptian Jews who were threatened by survival changed their attitude towards Zionism and immigrated to Israel.
