| The annotation of new words is an important part of the Chinese language textbook for overseas learners.For beginners,understanding the meaning and basic usage of words through annotations is an important way to master new words.As an influential comprehensive Chinese language textbook for overseas learners,the Road to Success is widely used.Due to the limited space,selecting Road to Success · Elementary 1 among the Chinese language textbooks for beginners as the research object,based on the textbook analysis,this paper compares,analyzes and researches various types of new word annotations in as much detail as possible,finds out their respective advantages and problems and provides a reasonable suggestions for the optimization of annotations,students and teachers in the use of textbooks through the comparison and discussion on the problems.In this paper,the first chapter discusses the overall characteristics of the Road to Success series and analyzes the Road to Success Elementary 1 from the textbook content,structure and topic analysis,vocabulary analysis(including vocabulary quantity and difficulty analysis)in detail.The second chapter summarizes and analyzes the principles and modes of new word annotation.Based on the new word annotation principle,“the easy-to-understand principle” and“the context principle” are summarized;according to the new word annotation mode,the division mode about the new word annotation mode suitable for this textbook is summarized,and the statistical analysis has been carried out.The third chapter compares the differentiation among some Chinese new words and English explanatory words in conceptual meaning,grammatical meaning and cultural meaning.In the conceptual meaning,the problems of the meaning deviation and the inconsistency of meaning scope among some new words and the explanatory words are concluded.In the grammatical meaning,it is summed up that some new words and explanatory words have their own characteristics in collocations and grammatical functions.In the cultural meaning,some new words and explanatory words are different in color meanings and pragmatic meanings.The fourth chapter discusses the positive effects and existing problems of new word annotation by examples,summarizes that the textbook combines the whole annotation with the morpheme annotation and maintains the accordance of word property and the rationality in theannotation of separable words.Meanwhile,this chapter also points out that there are some problems in annotation,that is,the annotation of different meanings of the same word,the generalization of “to”,the inconsistency of word property,the inappropriate choice of meanings,the inconsistency with the context of the text,the absence of conceptual meaning,and the inaccuracy of conceptual meaning are ignored.With regard to these problems and the objective differences between Chinese and English vocabulary,the fifth chapter puts forward reasonable suggestions for teachers and students in the use of textbooks,and reference opinions for the improvement of textbook annotations.In terms of teachers,this chapter proposes that teachers shall pay attention to the collocation of new words,examples giving,association and contrastive teaching and cultural introduction of vocabulary and use pictures for auxiliary teaching.In the aspect of students,it is put forward that students can learn new words by using the function of text context and annotation of word property.In terms of the improvement of textbooks,this chapter proposes that other explanatory words and determiners shall be added after some explanatory words to add annotations of basic meanings. |
