Listening as the first English language skill plays an important role in English teaching.We pay more attention to the international exchange as the curriculum reform of our country has entered a new period.Therefore,the listening skill should be paid more attention.With the improvement of attention,the teaching theory of English listening arises at the historic moment.The author finds that textual cohesion,as a textual cohesion theory,includes cohesion in pronunciation,grammar,vocabulary,and so on.At the same time,listening teaching also pays attention to the meaning of understanding,so the two can be a good combination.This thesis is based on discourse cohesion theory and combines listening teaching.The author analyzes the essence of listening comprehension and the domestic and foreign related research and also analyzes the research results of the relevant scholars at home and abroad,with the the discourse cohesion theory,the author found that although there is not so much research on this theory in listening teaching,it has close connection and important guiding significance to English teaching.It still needs our further research in order to enlighten the English teachers in our country.There are two innovations in this study.One is the author attempts to use textual cohesion theory in listening teaching.This is because the study of the combination of cohesion theory and listening teaching is mostly in the theoretical research,although it is also used in the practical teaching of English,most of them are used in reading and writing.There are only a few examples of the application of cohesion theory in practical listening teaching.Second,the author finds out the problems that students often make in the teaching process based on cohesion theory,so the author gives some concrete suggestions on the problems,hoping to give other researchers some enlightenment and help.This paper will solve the following two questions:(1)The application of the discourse cohesion theory whether can improve the students’ listening score or not?(2)Can the application of the discourse cohesion theory change the attitude and habits of listening?In order to study the above problems,the author carried out four-month teaching practice with two high-grade students in a high school in Harbin,and through the experiment and data analysis,the results show that the application of the discourse cohesion theory can help to improve the students’ listening scores.And the use of the discourse cohesion theory can change the attitude and habit of listening.
