| In recent years,as China and UK develop more closely,more British students are learning Chinese.Through one year of teaching mandarin as a foreign language in the Confucius institute at Ulster university,I find that British students are weak in learning mandarin modal particle.Therefore,this paper takes the students of the Confucius institute at Ulster university as the research object,take two typical Chinese modal words “ma” and “ne” as the research content,the survey statistics are made for junior and senior students respectively by means of questionnaires.This paper summarizes the types of errors and the order of acquisition that British students tend to make in the acquisition of modal words and analyses the causes of the errors.Combining with the previous research results and their own practical experience,this paper tries to explore effective teaching methods.There are six chapters in this paper:The introduction,which mainly introduces the reason and significance of the topic selection,summarizes the literature on the ontology of Chinese modal words and the study of Chinese as a foreign language,and introduces the research methods of this paper.Chapter One is about the syntactic position and usage of modal words “ma” and “ne”.This chapter mainly summarizes five syntactic positions of modal words “ma” and nine syntactic positions of modal words “ne” and elaborates on these 14 usage positions and meanings with examples.Chapter Two is the discussion of questionnaire and results.The first questionnaire survey was conducted among 35 junior students in the UK.And there is a senior student was followed up.According to the results of the questionnaire,the acquisition order of the modal words “ma” and “ne” is calculated.Chapter Three is the description of error type and analysis of the modal words “ma” and “ne”.According to the investigation results,three types of errors are summarized,that is,misapplication,omission,plus error.It also analyses the external and internal causes of English students’ learning bias.Chapter Four is focused on teaching feedback and suggestions.Through the above analysis and summary,35 junior students made the second questionnaire.Combined with the results of the two questionnaires,I proposed some teaching suggestions from four aspects: The writing of textbooks,the training of teachers,teaching methods and The environment of teaching.Chapter Five is the conclusion which provides some help to the teaching and acquisition of Chinese modal words in the Confucius Institute at Ulster University. |
