Marquez is not only a writer, but also a journalist. He not only created full-length novels with Latin American regional characteristics and magical charm, but also created many short stories with journalistic characteristics. His short story writing style is closely related to his personal career as a journalist. Many short stories are literary re-creation of the news, and they are more realistic than magical. These short stories reflect his international vision and world feelings as a journalist stationed abroad, which is hard to be seen in Marquez’s full-length novels and less explored by academia.Doce cuentos peregrinos, edited and published only in 1992,is the only collection of short stories with a unified theme in Marquez’s collection of short stories. The whole collection has a strong autobiographical color. In the novel, all the events are no longer in Latin America, but in Europe. He uses news-style language and magical imagination to intervene in the cultural and political situation of Europe, and juxtaposes the two worlds of "Latin America" and "Europe" in the same geographic space. He seizes the gap between different cultures to launch literary imagination, and penetrates into previous discussions on power, love, war and other topics. He allows foreigners to witness the civilization and ruins of modern society in the European continent, and to experience self-tearing and self-reconstruction in the spiritual wasteland of Europe at all times. In order to better explore the creation of "foreign land”in Marquez’s short stories, this paper introduces the "third space" of Homi K.Bhabha’s in the post-colonialism theory to make an in-depth analysis of the text. From the artistic effect of short stories and cultural reflection behind the text to explore the significance and value of Marquez’s "foreign land" as a writing space turn. This paper defines the concept of "third space",based on combing the relevant theories of "third space",and mainly explores from the following aspects.Firstly, explain the relationship between "foreign land" and "third space".Foreign land is not only a geographical space and literary theme, but also a place where third space can be generated, cultural criticism can be provided, and different cultures of hometown and foreign land can collide and negotiate.Secondly, use various spatial theories to analyze the novel texts and dig deeply into the world landscape and cultural imagination in the novel.By analyzing the selection of heterogeneous spatial forms, the rewriting of Western classical cultures and the infiltration of Latin American cultures in the novel, this paper studies the ambivalent psychology and narrative strategies contained in the text under Homi K.Bhabha’s "third space",and explores how Marquez makes unremitting efforts in cultural identity and identity negotiation by using the theme of foreign land.Thirdly,in the light of the development of the times and Marquez’s previous works, this paper analyses the unique artistic value of Marquez’s short stories, and feels the "double loneliness".Whether facing a foreign land or looking back on the motherland, loneliness can not be eliminated.
