| In language learning,reading,as one of the four language skills,always plays an important part.What’s more,reading occupies a high proportion in the English test.However,reading in junior high schools has always been the weakest link in English teaching for students.Although a lot of time has been spent looking for more effective learning methods,the results have not been satisfactory.As we know,reading effect is influenced by many factors,among which inquiry is an important factor.In recent years,with the comprehensive implementation of quality education,the idea of inquiry teaching has been paid more and more attention by educators.Inquiry teaching refers to the teaching process in which teachers consider learners’ cognition fully while giving full play to students’ active role in exploring unknown things,so as to improve teaching objectives,optimize teaching effects and promote the all-round development of students’ quality.This paper attempts to prove the validity and necessity of inquiry teaching in modern junior high school English teaching through empirical research.In English teaching,reading is not only the main input content,but also the main input channel.Not only can reading correct and consolidate listening,but also guide and enrich speaking.Meanwhile,it can provide examples for writing and start writing.At present,in China,the research on the application of inquiry learning to improve language has been started.But the research on the improvement of English reading ability of junior middle school students needs to be discussed.Based on the theory of constructivism and through empirical research,this paper integrates inquiry teaching into reading teaching aiming at the low reading ability of junior middle school students.This paper discusses the role of inquiry teaching about how to improve the English reading ability of junior middle school students and how to improve the efficiency of English reading class teaching in English reading classroom teaching.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)Is inquiry teaching more helpful for improving students’ interest in learning?(2)Does inquiry teaching help students to improve their English achievement?(3)Is inquiry teaching possible to stimulate students’ initiative in learning English?In order to study the above three questions,108 students of grade eight were selected as the subjects of study from Hu Lu Middle School in Guang Zong of Xing Tai City,Hebei Province.The data were collected in the form of questionnaires and English reading tests.Then the research investigated the condition of inquiry teaching,students’ interests,achievement and initiative.After that,SPSS 25.0 was used to the quantitative study about the related questions,and then the data were analyzed and discussed.The research results showed that student-centered inquiry learning can improve junior high school students’ English reading ability more than traditional teacher-centered learning.Inquiry learning has changed the teaching of English reading and changed the class traditional teacher-centered teaching.It helped students to form better learning strategies and improved the students’ interest in learning and English reading ability,so as to improve the students’ learning interest and English reading ability.It improves the students’ learning interest and English reading ability.The students’ creative spirit and practical ability have been cultivated,and the teaching quality has also been improved. |
