A Thousand Splendid Suns was published in 2007.The story tells that how the two heroines,Mariam and Laila begin to fight with their husband and gain success under the patriarchy society.Through their efforts,they break the shackles of patriarchy society.Mariam pays heavy price and leaves hope to Laila.Women being second-class in patriarchy society are powerless,and they can only take a little leap to improve their living.The heroic act of Mariam and Laila,emulates and inspires other women to exercise their own rights,shout their own voice and stand for their own dignity.It does push the process of gender equality and development.People analyze A Thousand Splendid Suns from many perspectives,such as Feminism and New Historicism.However,the author does not find that people analyze it from the perspective of Feminist Stylistics.Feminist Stylistics connects feminism and linguistic together.It not only focuses on text;the other factors are also taken into consideration.It has gone through almost 30 years,but its framework still needs to be enriched.The author integrates Feminist Stylistics and A Thousand Splendid Suns.It aims to explore how the gender equality is presented and why Mariam changes herself at last.Therefore,the author interprets the story on the level of word,rhetoric and transitivity choices.Farsi words and adjectives are included in the level of words.Simile and metaphor are included in rhetoric level.Transitivity choices are related to the process of fighting.Through the analysis,the author draws conclusions.Firstly,Khaled Hosseini tells the story from the perspective of women.Moreover,gender equality is indicated in words of women.Secondly,women's model of thought is fixed in the patriarchy society.They are submitted to men.And they convey their thoughts to next generation.Thirdly,Mariam endures everything in the beginning,and she fights against her husband at last.She achieves self-awakening eventually.Through the analysis of the text,the author wants more readers to have a deeper understanding of the story.At the same time,the author hopes that people can recognize the role of women in nation building.
